TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY URGED PUBLIC CAREFUL WHEN BUYING PLANE TICKETS

THE Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Transportation, appealed to prospective users of air transportation to always be careful when buying plane tickets, especially ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Accuracy helps prospective users of air transportation services to sort out and choose various options, both in Travel Agents and in Online Travel Agents (OTA).

“I urge the public to always be thorough and wise in buying plane tickets, both through Travel Agents and OTAs,” said Director General of Civil Aviation Polana Banguningsih Pramesti in Jakarta recently.

The accuracy of prospective users of air transportation services, said Polana, starts from the selection of routes and flight classes. Route and class of flight are closely related to fares. Make sure that the route and flight class chosen are in accordance with what is desired.

Regarding tariffs, Polana explained, the Government had arranged related to the upper limit ticket rates and the economy class Lower Limit Rates. Economy class tickets consist of several components. Among other basic distance rates, 10% VAT from distance rates of Rp5,000.

The government does not set basic fares for business class flights. Business class rates are more expensive than economy class rates. The price difference also follows the classification of direct flights (direct flight) and indirect (transit).

Transit flights, both 1 time transit and more than 1 time transit will be more expensive than direct flights. Therefore, the calculation of transit flights is the accumulation of fares from one route to the next. For example, for the flight route Jakarta-Ambon with 1 time transit in Makassar. The applicable tariff calculation is Jakarta-Makassar and Makassar-Ambon.

Based on KM 106 of 2019, for no frills flights, the upper limit tariff  provisions of 85% x 3,040,000 = Rp2,584,000 apply. For full service flights, tariffs according to upper limit tarrif are still regulated in KM 106 of 2019, which is 3.040,000.

In the OTA application service, on the Jakarta-Ambon route for departure on December 20 in the Traveloka service, for airlines with no frills services such as Lion Air, with 1 transit, tariffs range from Rp2,430,000 to Rp2,511,500.  While for no frills flights with 2 transits, rates range from Rp2,744,700 to Rp2,808,800.

Different prices will also be seen on airlines with full service services. The Garuda Indonesia airline, for example, imposes a tariff of Rp3,479.00 to Rp3,807,400. As for Garuda flights with 2 transits, a rate of Rp5,140,900.

Therefore, Polana reminded several important things before buying a plane ticket. First, confirm the desired flight schedule and route. Second, make sure that the class of flight requested is economy or business. Third, make sure that the flight is a direct flight or a transit flight.

Then, fourth, be sure to fill in your personal data correctly and contact numbers that can be contacted. Fifth, make sure that the flight provides luggage or not, and sixth, make sure that the user needs special needs or not.

“So, prospective users of air transportation services are not misunderstood with regard to ticket prices and can get the best service,” said Polana.

Specifically for airplane ticket purchases, especially through the OTA application, Polana explained, through the application technology system, a number of route, schedule, airline and service class options will be displayed. You will also see the many choices of ticket prices according to the class and route you will choose.

Polana also reminded, if prospective users of air transportation services felt that buying tickets exceeded upper limit tarrfif and lower limit tariff, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) invited to immediately report to the Office of the Airport Authority or Airport Operators accompanied by proof of tickets purchased. DGCA was ready to impose strict sanctions if there were proven airlines who violated.

“We continue to appeal to the public to be more observant in choosing a class of flight services (economic or business) also related to whether the flight is a direct flight or transit,” concluded Polana. [traveltext.id/photo special]
