DONDOKAMBEY: 2020, N. SULAWESI WILL AIM FOR 200,000 FOREIGN TOURISTS

THE Governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey is aiming at 200,000 foreign tourist arrivals throughout 2020.

“The tourism sector is one of the driving forces of the regional economy. Various breakthroughs continue to be made by the local government to achieve these targets including opening the flight path of the Lion Air airline route Hangzhou (China) -Manado,” he said.

He added, direct flights leased to Sam Ratulangi International Airport, Manado, were the eighth in the country of China. The Lion Air rental flight from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport travels for about five hours and is scheduled to fly three times a week.

“Hangzhou is the eighth city in China on which Lion Air flights from Manado after Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjing, Nanjing, Xi’an, Changsha and Fuzhou. “The opening of this new flight path is to open the influx of foreign tourists to North Sulawesi,” said Olly Dondokambey.

Based on BPS data from North Sulawesi Province, cumulatively foreign tourist arrivals to North Sulawesi were 118,844 people during January-November 2019, up 4.96% compared to the same period last year.

During that period, the visit of foreign tourists from China dominated 105,738 people, followed by German tourists 2,158 people, then US tourists 1,529 people. [antaranews]
