MILLENNIAL SHOULD HAVE CREATIVE THINKING IN ADVANCING TOURISM & CREATIVE ECONOMY

MINISTRY of Tourism & Creative Economy wants millennial creative thinking and always results-oriented in an effort to jointly advance the tourism sector and creative economy which is currently one of Indonesia’s largest foreign exchange earners.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio said tourism is not just talking about promotion and infrastructure. Many challenges to develop the tourism sector and the creative economy to be better and keep up with the times.

“In the future we must make changes and must dare to go out of comfort. How to boldly change habits. If it does not change, it will definitely be left behind by the times. From now on we must have the courage to change our mindset,” Wishnutama said.

In front of hundreds of millennials within the Tourism Ministry & Creative Economy environment, Wishnutama also motivated and shared stories about his great experience in the creative industry.

“My career departed from the creative world, slowly daring to make a change with dreams to make Indonesia proud. Alhamdulillah, I was trusted to make the opening and closing of the 2018 Asian Games, the results of which we could see together,” Wishnutama noted.

He also shared the matter of future tourism development strategies, whose main priority was to change the orientation from quantity tourism to quality tourism. Then there is also an inbound strategy, increasing the safety and security of tourists, to increasing the seat capacity of flights to Indonesia.

“Tourism is not a simple thing. Tourism is not only about promotion and infrastructure, but how we bring international events to be held here. For example Dubai, all events worked on, why did it do Dubai? Because to bring in foreign exchange. Then the most important thing is seat capacity,” he added.

Wishnutama explained the need to increase the number of seat capacity in increasing the number of tourists. In 2019, there will be 25 million seats capacity to Indonesia. In fact, the seat capacity that is met (load factor) is only 76 percent.

That way, Indonesia’s actual seat capacity is 19.1 million seats. Of these, 5.5 million were filled by Indonesian citizens. Therefore, the number of airline seats for foreign tourists to Indonesia is only 13.6 million seats.

“We are often compared to Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and finally Dubai. Thailand alone has 57 million seat caps with a load factor of 65 percent. Indonesia alone has 13.6 million seat capacity. To bring in 20 million tourists, how can I not increase the amount of seat capacity? This needs cross-ministerial coordination. Therefore, this is a challenge that we must face going forward,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
