YOGYAKARTA HOPES THAT SPECIAL TOURISM INCENTIVES WILL BE REALIZED SOON

YOGYAKARTA Special Region (DIY) hopes that the plan to provide special tourism incentives from the central government will be realized in its area to boost foreign tourist arrivals amid the Corona virus outbreak.

According to the Head of the Yogyakarta Special Region Tourism Office, Singgih Raharjo, said that Yogyakarta was very worthy of getting an incentive, especially that tourism. This will encourage a good tourism climate.

In addition to having a variety of attractive tourist destinations, according to him, Yogyakarta has been one place that is suitable for Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) by government and private agencies.

“By providing tourism incentives, the government is increasingly giving confidence to prospective foreign tourists that the condition of tourism in Indonesia, especially in Yogyakarta is safe from the Corona virus,” he said.

He added, the incentives were part of subsidies from the government. I think this is good, a strategy to increase the quantity and quality of tourist visits from the government. Admittedly, although not yet significant outbreak of the Corona virus outbreak in China has an impact on tourist visits in Yogyakarta.

“Although a few weeks ago the virus had no effect on tourism in DIY, according to Singgih, the impact is now beginning to be felt considering a number of countries, including Southeast Asia have asked their citizens to increase their vigilance. In fact, Singapore has raised its travel warning status from yellow to orange due to the Corona virus,” he noted.

Singgih Raharjo mentioned that this affected the traffic of tourists, including to Yogyakarta, because Yogyakarta was a direct flight from Singapore and Malaysia.

While the Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) DIY Deddy Pranowo Eryono welcomed the discourse of tourism incentives from the government. DIY as one of the leading destinations in Indonesia, even in the world, according to him, deserves the incentive.

“Tourism is unlimited, so it needs to be applied throughout Indonesia, especially DIY, one of the leading destinations in Indonesia and even the world,” he said. [antaranews/photo special]
