THE Indonesian Automotive Industries Association (Gaikindo) officially postponed the GIIAS Surabaya 2020 exhibition, due to the spread of the corona virus in Indonesian territory. GIIAS Surabaya will be held previously on March 20 to 29, 2020 at the Grand City Convex, Surabaya, East Java.
“As the organizer of the exhibition, Gaikindo reluctantly took steps and the decision to postpone the GIIAS Surabaya 2020 exhibition. We will postpone the GIIAS Surabaya 2020 exhibition until further notice,” Gaikindo said in an official statement.
The delay of the biggest automotive exhibition was also based on President Joko Widodo’s statement and appeal not to hold an event that involved many people.
“On the basis of consideration is the statement of President Joko Widodo in the media on Sunday 15 March 2020, concerning the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, Gaikindo and Seven immediately coordinated with regard to the GIIAS Surabaya 2020,” the statement said.
This step was carried out by Gaikindo in the form of their anticipation and support for decreasing the chain of virus spread which is currently sweeping the world and Indonesia is one of them.
Gaikindo stated that it has committed to prioritize the health and safety of the exhibitors, visitors of the exhibition, and the general public.
