COVID-19, GOV’T CLOSES THE FLOW OF TRANSPORTATION OUTSIDE JAKARTA

DIRECTOR of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, said that Jakarta was likely to be quarantined. This was said in accordance with the results of a joint coordination meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan who also served as Acting Minister of Transportation.

However, this discourse reportedly will only be decided after holding a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo and other ministries on Monday (30/3). In addition, the Ministry of Transportation is currently preparing regulations for quarantine in Jakarta.

“The plan is that the Minister will convey related to the Jakarta quarantine plan. Because now we all know that informal workers return to their respective regions because Jakarta’s economic conditions have declined,” he said, Saturday (3/28).

Furthermore, technically the quarantine that will be carried out is a ban on the movement of motorbike vehicles, passenger cars, public buses, that must not get out of Jakarta. Budi continued that the prohibition applies to all destinations including Central Java, West Java and Banten.

“Because Jakarta is a trajectory for vehicle users or travelers from the direction of Sumatra to Java, of course we will expand as well. From Sumatra we cannot go to Jakarta. Because they will definitely go to Central Java too. So we are preparing regulations,” he continued.

According to Budi, this regulation will become a guideline for officers in the field, especially the police, military and the Ministry of Transportation to jointly prevent the movement of motorized vehicles, both toll road users and national roads to Jakarta.

Nevertheless, he stressed that there would be exceptions only for goods vehicles, vehicle officers, such as toll road officers who conduct road checks and also the police.

“So this quarantine is specifically for Jakarta so it does not go out to its destination. Because Jakarta has already been exposed to a lot. This quarantine also applies to all transportation routes. So it is not only land, whether trains, air and sea. But later the concepts and schemes “The important thing is that we have prepared regulations and we are conducting a coordination meeting with the services of clans, DGH, organda related to how we build these regulations,” Budi said.

Meanwhile, Budi also hopes that what the Central and Regional Governments do can also be coordinated by the community. Especially the people who have become central to be able to realize this policy.

Budi also realizes that the reason for the informal workers who choose to return home is because of the current conditions. Therefore, he hopes the community can participate in channeling hands so that travelers will discourage them.

“So it means that the community must now be empowered, there is empowerment from the community to help this informal community. If the government has indeed delivered it will provide assistance to them later,” concluded Budi. [sources/photo special]
