FASHION BRANDS PIVOT TO MAKING FACE MASKS AS COVID-19 OUTBREAK

A NUMBER of fashion brands such as Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, to Fendi make and donate masks to help medical workers who work against the new corona virus (COVID-19).

Reported by Deezen, Sunday, Prada provided more than 100 thousand medical masks produced at its factory in Montone, Umbria, then allocated to health workers in Tuscany, following requests from the Italian regional government.

The Prada fabric mask covers the nose and mouth, offering one-way protection to catch body fluids that leave the wearer.

Although this mask cannot provide full protection against the corona virus, it is hoped that the mask can stop coughing and remind the wearer not to touch their faces.

Furthermore, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent will begin production, buy, and import three million surgical masks from China to donate to French health services.

“We are preparing to make masks while adhering to the most stringent health protection measures for staff members, with production in progress as soon as the manufacturing process and ingredients have been approved by the relevant authorities,” he said in a statement.

Gucci, said he would donate more than one million masks and 55 thousand pairs of medical kits to Italy in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, COS, Zara, and Mango are ready to make masks which are claimed to immediately distribute two million masks donated throughout Spain.

Meanwhile, LVMH will order a total of 40 million disposable particulate respirators (FFP2) and surgical masks from China to be distributed to health workers in France.

These tight respirator masks, the most common of which are labeled FFP2 in Europe or N95 in the US, provide bidirectional protection, and are harder to make.

LVMH, which houses famous brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy and Fendi, explained in a statement that seven million surgical masks and three million FFP2 masks would be sent in the days following the announcement. This order can be repeated for at least four weeks in the same amount. [antaranews/photo special]
