THE triathlon championship titled IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok 2020 which was originally held in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on July 4 was postponed to be carried out next year precisely on July 3 along with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to ISM CEO Arie Sukirno, the organizers of the championship said that in accordance with the directives of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government, regarding the Corona virus pandemic emergency (COVID-19), we hereby announce that IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok triathlon 2020 which was originally scheduled for July 4 will be scheduled for July 4 suspended and scheduled to be held again next year on July 3, 2021.
“All athletes who have registered for IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok triathlon 2020 will receive notification by email from the committee with further and more detailed information. With the current dynamic conditions that continue to change globally, we reluctantly understand the disappointment caused by the delay. However, we are committed to preparing for the upcoming events as well as possible for athletes,” he said.
He added, the triathlon championship titled IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok 2020 should be a means of proving that local organizers were able to hold international class events because they were previously controlled by foreign organizers. For IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok 2020, it will be managed by Indonesia Sports and Event Management (ISM).
“This is the first thing done by a local organizer. It really takes hard work to get this license, so we have to work optimally,” Arie Sukirno noted.
Arie admitted that IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok 2020 was the first championship handled by ISM, but we stressed that the implementation would not be inferior compared to when it was still handled by foreign managers. Moreover, the implementation will be guided directly by IRONMAN’s copyright owner, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC).
What distinguishes, he said, the sense of Indonesia is considered to be thicker considering the majority of the organizing committee up to the race director will be held directly by the Indonesians themselves.
“The taste of Indonesia will be more felt here (Lombok) even though the championship has not yet applied IRONMAN 70.3 in full. We will do it in stages. In terms of infrastructure, Lombok is very good. Roads, hotels, facilities, all have fulfilled the requirements. Therefore, the WTC also immediately agreed to the implementation in Lombok,” he said.
IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok 2020 will compete in three sports, starting with 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and continuing with 21 km of running. Specifically for the target audience, ISM is targeting 1,000 participants from home and abroad. In addition to individual participants, the organizer also expects attendees in the form of teams.
