BPS: HOTEL ROOM OCCUPANCY RATES IN MARCH 2020 FELL BY 16.98 POINTS

THE Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted the decline in foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia affected the Hotel Occupancy Rate of hotels in March 2020 which was 32.24%, which is down 16.98 points compared to February 2020 or down 20.64 points compared to March 2019.

According to the Head of BPS Suhariyanto through a virtual press conference in Jakarta, said the sharp decline in the number of foreign tourist arrivals could be expected to have an impact on tourism support sectors. One of them can be seen from Hotel Occupancy Rate.

Suhariyanto explained, Hotel Occupancy Rate per region was also relatively low, for example in Bangka Belitung with only 18.87% and in West Nusa Tenggara 19.07%.

The decrease in Hotel Occupancy Rate star classification hotels in March 2020 compared to March 2019 was recorded in all provinces, with the highest decrease in North Sulawesi, which was 32.68 points, followed by Bali Province 30.02 points, and Central Kalimantan Province 26.92 points while the lowest decline was recorded in South Sulawesi Province, which was 1.96 points.

When compared to February 2020 Hotel Occupancy Rate the decline also occurred in all provinces, with the highest decrease recorded in Southeast Sulawesi Province, which was 24.93 points, followed by Bengkulu Province 23.14 points, and DI Yogyakarta Province 22.42 points, while the lowest decrease was recorded in Aceh Province which is 5.76 points.

According to Suhariyanto, the decrease shows that the decreasing number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia has an effect on Hotel Occupancy Rate, although Hotel Occupancy Rate is not only for foreign tourists, but also for domestic tourists. [antaranews]
