TOURISM SECTOR HAS A CHANCE TO REVIVE FASTER WITH NEW NORMAL STANDARDS

THE application of new standard or normal procedures in public facilities will provide a good opportunity for the tourism sector and the creative economy to rise faster than COVID-19.

According to Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Impact Management Task Force in the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, Ari Juliano Gema in his statement on Wednesday (27/5) said, according to what President Joko Widodo said when reviewing the readiness to apply the standard procedures for the new order or new normal at public facilities yesterday that the application of standard procedures at public facilities aims to better discipline the public related to health protocols while at public facilities.

“The protocol to adapt to the new normal order prepared by the Ministry of Health will be disseminated massively to the public so that the public knows what to do both about keeping distance, about wearing masks, about washing hands, about being prohibited from crowding in large numbers. It is hoped that public awareness of discipline and health protocols will continue to increase and the spread of COVID-19 can continue to be suppressed,” he said.

He added, this was part of a step to ensure the readiness of the people to run a new normality that would drive the national economy including tourism and the creative economy.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, said Ari Juliano, is preparing a Cleanliness, Health and Safety (CHS) program which will be implemented in various tourist destinations in the country. The main goal is not only to prepare a destination that is better in accordance with the standardization of tourist needs in the new normalcy later, but also in applying discipline to the community.

“This is in line with the Government’s target so that public awareness of discipline and health protocols continues to increase. The Ministry of Tourism is targeting that by the end of this month standards and guidelines for implementing CHS can already be established and simulated. Then the CHS verification will be continued at the destination in June to July 2020. Furthermore, the implementation of the certification scheme and program is targeted to take place from August to December 2020,” Ari Juliano Gema noted.

He affirmed that the CHS program is planned to be run first in Bali, Yogyakarta and the Riau Islands and gradually in 5 super priority destinations and then throughout the country. Some factors that are considered in the CHS include, for cleanliness such as cleaning of spaces and public goods with disinfectants, the availability of hand washing facilities with soap, clean rubbish bins, and others.

While health includes coordination between destinations and COVID-19 Task Force areas and hospitals, checking body temperature, movement to wear masks, applying ethics to coughing and sneezing, including avoiding shaking hands, and handling for visitors with health problems when on-site activities.

“Factors in safety include visitor management, crowd management, distance between individuals, security measures, media and communication mechanisms for handling emergency conditions, and others,” Ari Juliano said.

President Joko Widodo also said yesterday that in applying the standard procedures for the new order in public facilities, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) would be deployed to conduct surveillance. Later TNI/Polri will be placed in crowded objects such as malls, markets, and tourism places that can make a crowd possible.

Related to this, Ari ensured the Ministry of Tourism will also work together with the TNI/Polri and other related parties in implementing CHS in the destination. Included in the socialization and assistance in implementing protocols supporting the CHS program in the tourism & creative economy business environment and tourist destinations will also involve elements of the TNI/Polri.
