AUSTRIA WILL START ACCEPTING THE ARRIVAL OF TRAVELERS FROM EUROPE

AUSTRIA will re-open the border with Italy and revoke quarantine requirements for tourists from more than 20 other European countries next week, local officials said Tuesday (9/6), as restrictions were put in place to curb the spread of the corona virus.

This decision eased tensions with neighboring Italy after Austria continued to examine corona virus related given the high infections and deaths due to COVID-19 in Italy.

Austria, bordering eight countries, lifted border restrictions caused by the corona virus last week except for Italy. The move led Rome to say such an “individualist” solution risks damaging the image of 27 European Union countries.

As of June 16, Austria will remove restrictions from many countries including Greece and Croatia. That is, people who come from these countries do not need to undergo quarantine for two weeks or show a negative test.

But Sweden was not included, the official said, adding details would be further discussed at a ministerial meeting on Wednesday (6/10). Unlike other countries, Sweden does not impose regional restrictions. [antaranews/photo special]
