IS HEALTH PROTOCOLS CAN BE HARMFUL FOR AIRLINE INDUSTRIES?

MINISTER of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, ensures that every policy issued by the Ministry, including the establishment of health protocols, always involves all related parties to minimize the risk of loss.

Budi clarified the public opinion that the health protocol applied in the transportation sector causes losses for airlines. In fact, the formulation of the protocol has involved all airlines, including through the Indonesia National Air Carrier Association (INACA).

“In deciding that we involve airlines, there is the name INACA, the airline association, we are involved in talking. The choices are like this, you talk to experts. So this is an equilibrium of harmful things and how we maintain this protocol properly,” Budi said.

He admitted that the health protocol was economically detrimental, but the government and aviation stakeholders had restarted economic activities.

“We have started, [protocol] at Soekarno-Hatta Airport [was] correct, only 10% of the movement of passengers. Last month it was 35%, roughly two weeks ago 43-45%. Thus, Even though the health protocol is number one, the Ministry of Transportation continues to strive for passenger movement activities that make the economy move,” he noted.

Budi added, I have educated the public not to be afraid of flying by giving an explanation about the High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter on the plane. I also believe that one day the movement of passengers will return 100% in 2021 when the pandemic has passed. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger movement must be maintained.
