DOMESTIC AIRPLANE PASSENGERS PLUNGED 59.15% IN JANUARY-OCTOBER

THE Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the number of domestic air transport passengers departing in October 2020 was 2.2 million people, an increase of 17.33% compared to September 2020.

According to the Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics of BPS, Setianto in his presentation in Jakarta, said the number of domestic air transport passengers in October increased 17.33% month to month (monthly) from 1.89 million people to 2.22 million people. Meanwhile, the number of passengers traveling to overseas (international) destinations still increased by 13.53% to 38.6 thousand people in October 2020.

“Thus, during January-October 2020 the number of domestic passengers was 25.8 million people or decreased 59.15% and the number of international passengers was 3.6 million people or decreased 77.11 percent compared to the same period in 2019,” he said.

He explained, BPS also recorded the number of train passengers departing in October 2020 as many as 11.9 million people, an increase of 4.45% compared to September 2020. In contrast to the number of passengers, the number of goods carried by trains decreased by 6.78% to 3 8 million tons.

“Thus during January-October 2020, the number of train passengers reached 158.9 million people or decreased by 55.20% compared to the same period in 2019. The same thing for the number of goods transported by rail fell 5.38% to 39, 6 million tons,” he noted.

Setianto added, meanwhile, the number of domestic sea transport passengers departing in October 2020 was recorded at 1.1 million people, an increase of 3.11% compared to September 2020. The number of goods transported increased 2.74% to 27.3 million tonnes.

“During the cumulative January-October 2020 number of sea transport passengers reached 11.7 million people or decreased by 40.28% compared to the same period in 2019, while the number of goods transported increased by 1.06 percent or reached 248.1 million tons,” Setianto affirmed.

He stressed that this is still far from the normal condition last year, both year on year and cumulative January-October. Interestingly, for goods transport using sea transportation, the trend of freight transport from May (continues to increase) from 21.71 million tons, and in October to 27.31 million tons.
