TOURISM MINISTRY STRIVES FOR GENOSE C19 FOR PRIORITY TOURIST DESTINATIONS

THE Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is working on procuring the Gadjah Mada Electronic Nose COVID-19 (GeNose C19) unit to be located at several tourist destination points.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno said that I was also working on a GeNose unit for us to use at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and also in several priority tourist destinations.

“GeNose C19 was developed by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and has a high level of accuracy, namely a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 95%. In contrast to other rapid tests, GeNose C19 is breath-based which offers users comfort because they don’t have to feel pain like undergoing a rapid test based on antibodies and antigens,” he said.

He explained, GeNose C19 can help reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19, especially since the process is very easy, fast and cheap. Because one way to improve testing according to WHO standards is the level of convenience and also in terms of cost.

However, Sandiaga said the use of GeNose C19 was not to increase public interest in Indonesian tourism.

“I am of the opinion that the increasing number of test options is not directly proportional to the increase in tourism and travel but the increasing number of options for rapid testing and effective tracking and location-based self-isolation policies will be directly proportional to the reduction in transmission of the COVID-19 virus,” Sandiaga concluded.
