THE IMPORTANCE OF DIGITAL INNOVATION TO AWAKEN PAREKRAF SECTOR

INDONESIA’S Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy emphasizes the importance of digital innovation in an effort to revive the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) sector of the country.

According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, during her visit to the Traveloka Campus in the Bumi Serpong Damai area, said the COVID-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia and the world had a very big impact on the tourism and economy creative (parekraf) sector. So, there needs to be innovations, especially in the digital sector, to revive the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) sector in Indonesia.

“There needs to be innovations from the nation’s children for Indonesian tourism. Moreover, Indonesia has great potential (in the digital field), because of our large, young population, and our consumptive population,” Angela said.

In this regard, Angela considers the establishment of the Digital Hub in the BSD area to be something that is visionary for the development of the creative economy in Indonesia. I think, she continued this is a visionary concept, the right target, and the most important thing is the right one.

Angela also appreciated Traveloka’s presence as a private company partnering with the Ministry of Tourism in an effort to innovate in developing the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) sector in the country. According to Angela, Traveloka also plays an important role in developing the tourism and creative economy digitally.

“Traveloka is also one of the representatives of the private sector who greatly contributes to the Indonesian tourism sector, especially digital-based tourism,” she noted.

Angela invites all Indonesian people to remain confident that the tourism sector and creative economy in Indonesia can recover. Moreover, after vaccination for tourism and creative economy (parekraf) players in Bali on March 16-18, 2021.

“This vaccination was also attended by the President, and this is our commitment to continue to encourage vaccination in Bali and all tourist destinations in Indonesia. So that we can immediately open Indonesian tourism to the world,” Angela affirmed.

In addition, Angelina added, the Ministry of Tourism and related ministries and institutions were also discussing plans to gradually reopen tourist destinations in Indonesia, while still implementing strict  Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE)-based health protocols. Of course, this also requires the support of stakeholders regarding how we can ensure that when tourist destinations in Indonesia are reopened, we are ready and supported by digital innovation.
