TXOKO RESTO OFFERS TASTE OF AUTHENTIC BASQUE CUISINE

TO facilitate food lovers in Jakarta there is now a new Spanish restaurant, Txoko, located in Jalan Suryo No.6, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta serves authentic dishes from the Basque Country, without having to go far there.

Oskar Urzelai, an experienced Spanish chef who currently lives in Jakarta, finally opened a typical Basque authentic restaurant, a unique part of Spain located on the north coast of the country. Oskar himself has been in the F&B industry for 20 years and has been worked in hotelier and restaurant industry in several countries.

“Like many places in Spain, the Basque Country has its own culture, identity, food, and even language. In the past few years, the Basque Country has become popular with its cuisine. Food has always been a top priority for people living in the Basque Country, and the Basque Country’s appreciation of their gastronomic heritage is manifested by their enthusiasm to find new methods and ideas,” he said during the introduction of his restaurant menu on Thursday (20/6) .

It is said, the name Txoko Restaurant is taken from the term closed gastronomic society in the Basque Country where friends and family gather to cook, experiment with new cooking methods, eat and socialize called tkoxo in Basque (read choos and can be interpreted as angles comfortable). We even brought our own chef from San Sebastian, one of the provinces in the Basque Country and famous for its delicious cuisine.

But when asked about the reason for opening this authentic Basque cuisine restaurant here, he then answered it deliberately we wanted to present a small portion of the Basque Country and offer authentic and unique Spanish food in Jakarta. I think the market for serving authentic cuisine is still wide open and it should be noted that the restaurant we opened is the only Basque restaurant in the city of Jakarta. So I think besides the food, we also want people who come here to enjoy this place and have fun with family and friends.

“In this restaurant we try to offer various types of tapas and pinchos, Basque-style tapas, with toppings from a variety of ingredients. Besides that, guests can also enjoy 50 well-known selected wines. Of course we present Basque cuisine with the highest quality products and ingredients and unite the Basque culinary traditions with new modern techniques and presentations, “said Oskar Urzelai.

He added, we also provide rooms for closed parties. The dining room facilities are divided into 2 floors which can accommodate up to 110 guests and are available for various events such as parties, workshops, meetings. In the private room can accommodate up to 18 guests, and a TV with an HDMI connection is available for company/business presentations.

“Now, to try this authentic Basque cuisine menu, it is pegged at an average of Rp400,000 for 2 dinners for those who want to eat our special dishes such as Garlic Prawns Pre-A-Porter, Grilled Octopus Cream, Spanish Omelette Lasao, Lamb Shank with Sweet Potato and Idiazabal Cheese Cake with Honey Ice Cream,” he said.

He also explained that don’t worry at Txoko we use local ingredients and quality, cooked with a mixture of traditional and modern techniques. Even when entering this restaurant, guests will be welcomed by the nuances of a bright and Mediterranean-style room.

Unfortunately when we asked about the investment that has been spent for this restaurant, Oskar stressed, “it is appropriate to realize my love for the culinary world and responsibility for all operations of this restaurant starting from the kitchen, production, creation, product quality, cost, price including menu design, so this is the most important thing for me here to be able to present this authentic Basque flavor into the menu that I serve in this Txoko Jakarta restaurant.” [traveltext.id]
