RESURRECTING THE INDONESIAN MICE INDUSTRY ON THE INTERNATIONALLY

THE Indonesia’s Government decision to form of Deputy for Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Exhibition (MICE) at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is considered to be able to raise MICE Indonesia’s destinations internationally.

According to Iqbal Alan Abdulla, Chairperson of the Indonesian Congress and Convention Association (INCCA) said the presence of MICE deputies is very important not only in the context of developing MICE destinations but also to bring more international MICE activities to Indonesia.

That is why, he hopes that the figure chosen to occupy the position of MICE deputy has international diplomacy capabilities. “We propose that the figure who holds the position of deputy MICE is a figure who has international diplomacy skills, and has experience in dealing with multilateral organizations (IGO’s), NGOs, international associations and others,” he said.

According to him, there are currently tens of thousands of international organizations in the world. Among them are under the United Nations (UN), some are not like business associations, professions, expertise and others. This organization holds regular annual, biennial, triennial meetings and so on.

Indonesia, both the government and NGOs and the private sector is registered as a member of the organization and not even a few are trusted to be the executive board of the organization.

“In this context we need someone who can understand these organizations and make a breakthrough to encourage Indonesia to host their meeting activities. This is not the work of one person, but it must be together, including with our diplomats abroad, and organizers / planners,” he said.

Iqbal also mentioned that with MICE’s position, the marketing perspective of MICE must also change by targeting several world cities that become the headquarters of international organizations such as Switzerland (Geneve), Austria (Vienna), England (London), Italy (Rome), Germany , Berlin, Bonn), USA (New York, Washington DC) and several cities in Asia such as Japan, Beijing, Singapore.

“Also, remember that these cities are cities where multinational companies were born all over the world, so the IGO’s market or intergovernmental international meetings can be at the same time also meeting and incentive travel related business activities of multinational companies,” said Iqbal .

With hard work, smart work, and the cooperation of all stakeholders Iqbal hopes that Indonesia can penetrate the top 10 countries organizing the largest international meeting in the world. [traveltext.id]
