TRANSPORTATION MINISTRY NOTES THE DECREASE PASSENGERS IN 2019

THE Ministry of Transportation noted a decrease in the number of land or road transport passengers during Christmas 2019 and the New Year 2020, namely in the D-6 to D-11 periods by 762,348 passengers or 22.74 percent compared to 2018/2019.

Transportation Ministry Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, in Jakarta recently, explained that the number of road or land transportation passengers dropped from 3.4 million to 2.6 million. Meanwhile, the number of ferry passenger passengers has increased from 2.1 million in 2018/2019 to 2.5 million in 2019/2020.

“The number of railroad passengers rose 4.40 percent from 5.5 million people in the 2018/2019 period to 5.7 million people in 2019/2020. Then sea transportation rose 13.58 percent from 981,752 people in 2018/2019 to 1.1 million people in 2019/2020, air transportation dropped 6.51 percent from 5.4 million people in 2018/2019 to 5.1 million people in 2019/2020,” he said.

Budi said the decline in the number of public transport passengers, especially land transportation, is due to the large number of people turning to private transportation due to the presence of the Jakarta-Cikampek Flyover.

“The number of bus passengers has fallen. I can explain it seems that the community is still trying to condition the toll road that connects several provinces / cities. The number of vehicles as much as 5.6 million vehicles rose 17 percent. So many residents ride private vehicles,” he said.

He considered that the condition had been predicted and hoped that in the next Lebaran transportation, the community could switch back to public transportation.

“The Minister of Transportation has also predicted that. The competitor’s bus is indeed a private car, hopefully when the Lebaran transport returns to public transport later. We repair our public transport facilities, the points and vertices are also improved,” he added.

Based on the PT Jasa Marga Command Post January 5, 2020 it can be seen that the number of vehicles on the toll road in Christmas Transport 2019 and the New Year 2020 period D-6 to D + 11 is 5.6 million vehicles.

The number of vehicles increased 17.76 percent when compared to the previous year’s vehicle number of 4.7 million vehicles.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Nur Isnis said the number of airplane passengers dropped, but it was still higher than expected

“Indeed, we predict down, but aircraft users are greater than our predictions. The flight time accuracy of staying at 64 percent is quite good with Halim Airport being flooded,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
