AP I: YOGYAKARTA INT’L AIRPORT WILL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL ON MARCH 29

PT ANGKASA Pura (AP) I will fully operate Yogyakarta International Airport in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on March 29, 2020.

According to Managing Director of PT Angkasa Pura Faik Fahmi at Kulon Progo, Monday, said on March 29, 2020, all flights at Yogyakarta’s Adi Sutjipto Airport will be diverted to Yogyakarta International Airport, except scheduled and unscheduled flights using propeller planes, and VIP flights using planes private jet.

“We will divert all flights from Adi Sutjipto Airport to Yogyakarta International Airport at the end of March. Later there will be 66 flights at Yogyakarta International Airport, currently only 34 flights per day,” said Faik.

He said the transfer would be carried out simultaneously. This is based on input from the airline.

“If it is carried out in stages, it will result in higher costs. They (airlines) have to incur operational costs in two places. So it is better, the transfers are carried out simultaneously,” he said.

In addition, on March 29, Yogyakarta International Airport will operate 24 hours from previously only operating 12 hours from 06.00 – 18.00 WIB. Meanwhile, the operating hours of Yogyakarta’s Adi Sutjipto Airport will change from previously 05.00 – 21.00 WIB, to 05.00 – 18.00 WIB.

Since it began operating on 6 May 2019 until the end of December 2019, Yogyakarta International Airport has served more than 232,000 passengers and 2,568 aircraft movements with 13 domestic routes to Denpasar, Banjarmasin, Palembang, Jakarta (Cengkareng and Halim Perdanakusuma), Palangkaraya, Batam, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Tarakan, Pontianak, Makassar and Kualanamu. Meanwhile, the number of flights at Adi Sutjipto Airport is 150 domestic flights and eight international flights.

“Yogyakarta International Airport will continue to prepare itself for full operations by the end of March 2020 so that it can better serve flights to and from DIY and surrounding areas,” said Faik.

At present, Yogyakarta International Airport is supported by public transportation modes such as Damri, SatelQu, airport taxis, online taxis, and trains from the nearest station Wojo Station which can be reached in 10 minutes from the airport.

“The choice of transportation mode will make it easier for passengers using airport services,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
