TOURISM MINISTRY WANTS TO PROMOTE TOURISM THROUGH ESPORTS EVENTS

THE Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy wants to promote Indonesia’s tourist attraction through the world-class esports tournament, the Free Fire Champions Cup 2020.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio said I hope that the championship which will be held in Jakarta on April 19, 2020 can have an impact on improving the creative economy while introducing the beauty of Indonesia to participants coming from various countries.

“Free Fire Champions Cup 2020 can be one of the attractions so that esports fans visiting Indonesia can find out the beauty of tourism in Indonesia. The tournament that specifically competes in the Free Fire game branch from Garena will be participated by 12 international esports teams from Asia, America, Europe and Africa. Participants will compete for a total prize of not less than IDR8,18 billion,” Wishnutama Kusubandio said.

The esports tournament event, he continued, has the potential to increase foreign exchange earnings apart from conventional tourism. However, he advised the organizers to be serious in organizing events.

He added, in contrast to other tournaments that sell natural beauty, esports for sale are organizing events and experiences that leave a deep impression on visitors. I also encourage the esports industry players to be more active in holding international-scale events in Indonesia.

“The more events there are the more well-known the attractiveness of the homeland so that it can increase tourist visits to Indonesia,” explained Tourism Minister.

While Garena Indonesia Director Hans Kurniadi Saleh said that Indonesia’s election as the organizer of the Free Fire Champions Cup was a good sign related to the development of the ecosystem and the esports industry in the country.

Because, Indonesia must go through a long negotiation and auction process until finally it is chosen as the host. Hans also explained that only countries with good indicators of esports growth could host the Free Fire world championship.

“For the first time the international class tournament Free Fire was held in Indonesia, after last year the tournament took place in Bangkok, Thailand with a global online audience reaching more than 8,480,000. The Indonesia EVOS esports team won the Free Fire tournament last year, “said Hans Kurniadi.

According to Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gatot S. Dewa Broto, the esports ecosystem in the country has experienced better development. This is reflected in the success of organizing a number of esports tournaments, one of which is the Esports 2020 Presidential Cup which just finished this February.

“At the first Esports Cup in 2019, we still provided financial support. But this year there is no need anymore, because the tournament can run independently. This is a sign that the esports tournament has considerable market and economic potential,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
