WISHNUTAMA: I ENCOURAGE FILMMAKERS TO UTILIZING DIGITAL PLATFORMS

MINISTER of Tourism & Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio, encouraged filmmakers to start utilizing digital platforms or over the top (OTT) companies to display and display their work to the public in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wishnutama Kusubandio during a press conference Virtual Film Festival and Online Series Collaboration with GoPlay, Wednesday (5/13) explained, after the COVID-19 epidemic there will be new trends in changes in human behavior or the so-called new normal including one of them having a virtual discussion, which before virtual COVID-19 appears, this is rarely done.

“This means that the digital era is accelerating rapidly. My question is, this is not a temporary thing, after the epidemic. This must be Indonesia’s new strength. This is one future that must be supported. For this reason, we are optimistic,” he said.

He also realized that many were affected by the epidemic of COVID-19 for the film industry in Indonesia. Starting from the production of many stalled and many films were delayed screening. However, there are ways to solve the problem coupled with a sense of optimism.

The film festival program and online series together with GoPlay for example were held to support the extraordinary conditions for the film industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I hope filmmakers, film friends, digital platform friends can help film development in their own ways. I also hope that GoPlay as a product of the nation’s children can continue to support the work of other nation’s children. So that our film industry is more victorious even though we have to deal with an increasingly fast digital era,” he added.

Wishnutama also explained, OTT platforms are currently becoming trending and widely used. However, OTT platform players in Indonesia are mostly owned by foreigners. So he hopes that Goplay can become a successful OTT platform created by the nation’s children.

“This is a form of competition with foreign players. For that reason, understanding our audience’s behavior is very important, we can make good content in accordance with the wishes of the audience. So what will be produced in the future can be precise and efficient. That is a way to prepare a new ecosystem, the winner is who can understand who their audience is, who their customers are,” Wishnutama noted.

Previously, Tourism & Creative Economy Ministry worked with the Indonesian Film Agency (BPI) to discuss the challenges faced by homeland film workers. In addition, to make a protocol so that the economic life of the film industry and the perpetrators continue to run in the midst of conditions that experience a variety of challenges not only cinema but also when production is faced with severe challenges COVID-19.

“We are preparing various protocols to deal with new normal conditions. If the protocol is ready, we will conduct simulations and trials because economic life must proceed. This was prepared for better conditions than today but now it is still preparing protocols from before, it must be prepared to live in a new normal period,” Wishnutama concluded. [traveltext.id]
