IATA DEVELOPS A TRAVEL MOBILE APPLICATION FOR COVID-19 ERA

THE aviation association, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), developed a set of mobile applications to help passengers navigate travel restrictions and safely share COVID-19 test results with airlines and the government.

IATA, which represents many of the world’s major airlines, plans to test the Travel Pass platform at the end of the year and deploy it for Android and iOS phones in the first half of next year.

The airlines that are members of the association are urging the government to replace quarantine requirements with systematic COVID-19 testing.

“Our top priority is getting people to travel safely again. That means giving confidence to the government that systematic COVID-19 testing can serve as a substitute for quarantine requirements,” said IATA security chief Nick Careen.

According to IATA, passenger health data along with other information are not stored centrally but are authenticated with the blockchain, so users can control what they share.

The “Contacless Travel” application will combine passport information with test and vaccination results received from participating laboratories.

The platform, according to IATA, is also built on open source standards to aid interoperability with existing systems, including customer applications belonging to the association’s member airlines. [antaranews]
