WISHNUTAMA: TOURISM PLAYERS EXPECT A LOT FROM THE YEAR-END HOLIDAY

THE Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio, said that business people really expect a lot from the momentum of this year-end holiday.

“Especially Benoa, the booking rate for a number of hotels until next December has reached 80%. Meanwhile in Nusa Dua, orders have reached around 40% and are likely to continue to increase,” he said.

Wishnutama explained that at the National Coordination Meeting to Accelerate the Development of Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations in Jakarta, (27/11) that it means that our tourism is actually very promising but tourism actors really really hope with this year’s end of holidays. Despite high hopes, the government has yet to decide on the certainty of joint leave in December 2020. President Jokowi has proposed cutting year-end joint leave on the grounds of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Muhajir Effendi had also contacted him regarding the year-end holidays. Muhajir also hopes that the tourism sector can be helped by the year-end holidays.

“This morning Muhajir called me about this, he also went to Bali and he hopes that tourism can be helped by the end of this year. Because there are many bookings. This requires the assistance of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Panjaitan so that there is an opportunity for tourism players to rise ,” Wishnutama noted.

He added, even before that, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the long holiday during the pandemic did not improve economic indicators or there was no consumption, but instead increased the number of COVID-19 cases.

“This means that we must be careful to look at it, whether with a long holiday, people do activities, their mobility is high, but it does not cause spending and causes additional COVID cases,” said Wishnutama, quoting Sri Mulyani’s statement. [antaranews]
