TRAVELOKA PREDICTS TOURISM TRENDS IN 2021, STAYCATIONS TO ROADTRIPS

THE technology company Traveloka predicts that tourism activities in the form of staying at hotels or villas in or outside the city where someone lives or staycations will still be a tourist trend in 2021.

According to Albert, Traveloka Co-Founder in the press conference of Technology-Based Innovation and Travel Trend Prediction for Traveloka 2021 said that besides that, trips using their own vehicles, road trips, will also be the community’s choice in traveling. The availability of the COVID-19 vaccine in Indonesia is predicted to drive the popularity of out-of-town destinations this year.

“Based on Traveloka data, traveling activities in the form of staycations are the choice of 38% of users, 34% choose to enjoy culinary tours and another 25% want to experience domestic flights,” he said.

He added, as a technology company, we always put product and feature innovation as the top priority to encourage safety, convenience and user convenience in using our services. Even in the midst of a pandemic, Traveloka notes that people’s interest in traveling on tours is still high.

Based on an internal survey of Traveloka users, he continued  between 28 May and 16 August 2020, 67% of respondents chose holidays as the activity they most want to do after the pandemic ends. Meanwhile, over the past year 26% of Traveloka users stated that they had taken a vacation and 72% of them went out of their domicile on a road trip.

“The most popular destinations during 2020 for staycations and road trips are Jakarta, Bandung and Surabaya, followed by Malang, Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang and Bali. Nearly half of users plan to travel using airplane transportation,” Albert NOTED.

He concluded therefore, Traveloka predicts that flights will again increase as the main transportation for traveling. In addition, staycations and road trips will still be user favorites in 2021.
