BOEING RECOMMENDS B777-200 STOP FLYING, GARUDA INDONESIA IS SAFE

PRESIDENT Director of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. Irfani Setiaputra ensured that the company’s Boeing aircraft were in safe condition after the Boeing Co manufacturer recommended airline operators to suspend the use of the B777-200.

He also confirmed that the Boeing 777 aircraft owned by the company had a different engine from the series of planes that were suspected of having problems.

“Hopefully our plane is safe. Garuda has a different Boeing 777-300ER from the 777-200. The engine used (Garuda Indonesia) comes from GE, not Pratt & Whitney,” said Irfan on Monday (22/2/2021).

Boeing recommended that the entire B777-200 fleet be suspended after the engines of United Airlines’ same series exploded in mid-flight last Saturday. This suspension is specifically for Boeing 777 series 200 which uses Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines.

Irfan stated that Garuda has ten units of Boeing 777-300 ER. I make sure the company continues to carry out maintenance on its aircraft engines. We carry out routine inspections of Garuda Indonesia aircraft.

“Currently, there are three countries whose airlines use the Boeing 777 200 series. The three countries are America, Japan, South Korea. In America, only United Airlines uses this type of aircraft,” he noted.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation said that only Garuda had Boeing 777 aircraft in Indonesia. However, the aircraft series owned by Garuda Indonesia are different from the fleet suspended by Boeing.

Meanwhile Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, also guaranteed that not a single Boeing 777 aircraft was grounded in the country. However, the Ministry continues to coordinate with Garuda Indonesia to ensure that the aircraft is not in trouble.

“We continue to carry out intensive coordination and monitoring with Garuda Indonesia,” said Adita. [bisnis.com/photo special]
