IT turns out that one of the travel media from the United States (US), Fodor’s Travel launched a list of destinations to visit and it is better to not be visited in 2020. Besides Bali, other destinations in Indonesia that are included in the list or better considered not to be visited by 2020 are Komodo Island, East Nusa Tenggara.
If in Bali Fodor’s Travel focuses on the environmental impact of mass tourism, the story is different from Komodo Island. Fodor’s Travel observes Komodo Island as a destination with tourist costs that are too cheap and should raise tourist taxes for the preservation of endangered animals.
“Indonesian stakeholders initially planned to close Komodo Island for one year from January 2020 but canceled the initiative after determining that the Komodo dragons living there were not threatened by tourist interference with their behavior and habitat,” Fodor’s Travel wrote.
According to Fodor’s Travel, currently UNESCO is overseeing the Government of Indonesia, especially the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in the management of the Komodo National Park.
Despite writing a statement the Indonesian Government is discussing the imposition of a tourist tax and limiting the number of visitors to Komodo Island, Fodor’s Travel still invites tourists to consider a visit there. [sources/photo special]
