PT Pelabuhan Indonesia IV or State-owned Indonesian Port Company (Pelindo) continues to improve itself connecting one tourist destination with other inter-island tourist destinations with sea transportation modes.
According to Director of Pelindo IV, Farid Padang said, as a company that manages 27 ports in 11 provinces in Eastern Indonesian Area, many tourist destinations that can be developed include Makassar, Ambon, East Kalimantan, Gorontalo, Kendari, Manado, Ternate and Jayapura.
“This is in line with President Jokowi’s direction so that tourism development continues to be encouraged to catch up with the backwardness of other countries’ tourism sector. Later the integration of ports and tourism will create a new economic center in the city, “he said.
He added, shopping centers, tourist areas, culinary areas and several other facilities will grow as a multiflier effect for the arrival of foreign tourists and domestic tourists.
“At present, Makassar Port is like an airport, using the garbarata for passenger ship entry facilities. Pelindo IV built this facility in 5 other ports. Later the tenure will be installed Information Center (ITC). There will be complete tourism information and export-import information, “said Farid Padang.
He added, there are now several cruiser ships leaning in the port of Pelindo IV. But out of 2,500 passengers, only 700 people have come down. And even then only about 8 hours. How will the tourism economy grow if new ships arrive then go home. They only know certain tourist attractions but do not know the complete tour packages.
In addition, Pelindo IV also offers two concepts to build cities from ports to support integrated tourism programs. The offer follows the condition of Ambon City which is increasingly dense and as a trading city with the condition of the port inside the city. The two port concepts offered include, domestic and passenger ports, including specifically for tourism.
