She added, as is well known that MICE industry is the industry that earns foreign exchange the fastest, because the character of MICE tourists has a much greater amount of spending or leisure than leisure tourists.
“One that has great potential is to host a meeting of international associations because in this activity there is a transfer of knowledge and economic impact on the host,” she said.
Besides encouraging the growth of the MICE industry in Indonesia, Raty Ning continued, it also includes education and networking, the holding of the ICCA Indonesia Forum 2020 aims to bring more visibility to Indonesia on the international stage, increase the capacity and capability of the MICE industry in Indonesia, and support the Government’s program to advance the MICE industry in Indonesia to be able to compete with global MICE destinations.
“But the most important thing is to improve Indonesia’s position as one of the world’s preferred international association meeting destinations,” she added.
While the Deputy for Tourism Products and Events Organizers of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Rizki Handayani, said as stipulated in the Government’s Medium-Term Development Plan that MICE has become one of the focuses that must be developed, because through implementation MICE events such as expertise conferences in Indonesia, can not only improve the image of tourism and foreign exchange but are also able to have an impact on capacity development for professionals in Indonesia itself.
“Therefore, I hope this forum can expand networking and increase the ability for participants to be able to continue to improve the quality and quantity of organizing MICE events in Indonesia,” said Rizki Handayani.
According to ICCA data shows that in 2018 Indonesia ranked 36th for the World Ranking of the International Association Meeting Destinations with a total of 122 regional and world meetings. Meanwhile, in the Asia Pacific region, Indonesia ranks 11th. But Indonesia is still under ASEAN countries, such as Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
“Looking at the ICCA data for 2018, we see that there are still many opportunities for Indonesia to bring together an international association meeting through international bidding. This not only requires support from the Government but also the capacity of MICE industry stakeholders to capture this opportunity,” she concluded. [traveltext.id/photo tourismvaganza]
