THE appearance of a series of local and international musicians as well as the high enthusiasm of the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2020 show how great the potential of the creative economy in Indonesia (RI), in this case music as one of the 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy in Indonesia.
BNI Java Jazz Festival 2020 officially starts on Friday (2/28/2020) at JiExpo Kemayoran Jakarta. On the first day of the event, a series of local and international musicians performed. Anov Blues One featuring PS Crew and “Avo Indobeatbox” were the opening performers. Next came the performances of Rizky Febian, Anomalie, Jamie Aditya and Bruno Major.
Bruno Major, a British singer, songwriter and guitarist, appreciated the Java Jazz Festival. He felt fortunate because through the creative economy sector, in this case music, he could visit and perform in Indonesia.
“Song (music) is the reason I was invited to Jakarta,” said Bruno Major from the stage.
In addition to Bruno Major, the international musician who was present yesterday was Ron King Big Band who always performed at the annual Java Jazz Festival.
While the veteran composer of the homeland, Erwin Gutawa also supports the Java Jazz Festival which is consistent every year. Last night, Erwin Gutawa presented a special treat titled “Chrisye Live by Erwin Gutawa with Special Guest Gerald Situmorang ‘. The Java Jazz Festival became a space for creative economy practitioners to work while maintaining the sustainability of the creative economy industry.
“For that we say thank you to the Java Jazz Festival 2020 which has given us a stage to perform. We also thank the visitors who have come to have fun and reminisce. Thank you for supporting Indonesian music,” said Erwin Gutawa.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio appreciated the long journey of the Java Jazz Festival that has been taking place since 2005.
“Congratulations to the Java Jazz team, which has been faithful for 15 years to present a jazz event that brings music lovers not only from within but also from abroad,” Wishnutama said.
He also appealed to all levels of Indonesian society to increasingly actively create world-class events.
“There is much that we can offer to tourists besides natural and cultural riches, one of which is a world-class music event that is packed with creative, innovative, and certainly entertaining, so that you can enjoy world music, #DiIndonesiaAja” Wishnutama noted.
He hoped that more and more world-class events in the country could increase the number of tourists so that it would affect the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
This annual event which is always held at the beginning of March is also one of the flagship events in the Calendar of Events Kemenparekraf. For this year, the Java Jazz will be held for three days, from 28 February 2020 to 1 March 2020.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Java Jazz Festival Aficionado Jazz Production Peter F. Gontha explained that the tagline Redeem Yourself Through Music is the result of life reflection. This tagline means that everyone needs something to take a break from things that happen in life.
