TO BOOST TOURISM, MINISTRY PROVIDES FOR DISCOUNT AIRLINE TICKETS

THE Ministry of Transportation provided an incentive of Rp500 billion for discount airplane tickets to 10 domestic city destinations, in order to boost tourism and increase tourist arrivals.

Discounts are given to origin flights and to 10 destinations, namely Batam, Denpasar, Yogyakarta (Adisutjipto Airport and NYIA Kulonprogo), Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Malang, Manado, Silangit, Tanjung Pandan and Tanjung Pinang. Discounts apply for round-trip flights from 1 March 2020 to 31 May 2020.

“The government is providing ‘cash’ funds of more than IDR500 billion, which will be given a discount of approximately 30% to ten destinations. The funds are likely to increase if passengers increase,” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said at a press conference at APSpace Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang.

The Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, explained that the IDR500 billion fund that had been prepared, amounting to 30% of the APBN, was allocated to national airlines serving routes to 10 destinations.

Then, Pertamina gives 15% for the purchase of avtur from the specified reference price. Airport operators, such as Angkasa Pura I, Angkasa Pura II and Airnav also allocate 5 percent for the reduction of Aircraft Passenger Service (PJP2U) tariffs. Thus, the total incentive provided is 50% for discounted airline ticket prices.

Meawhile President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaludin said of the 10 destinations that were given incentives, three destinations were to be managed by AP II, namely Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport Tanjung Pinang Airport, HAS Hanandjoeddin Tanjung Pandan International Airport (Belitung) and Silangit Airport.

“For airport operators, we will provide incentives from a 20% passenger service charge. That will be done by a direct mechanism for cutting and charging ticket costs,” Awaludin said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Director of PT Garuda Indonesia Dony Oskaria welcomed the policy of providing incentives to facilitate domestic tourists from and to 10 destinations.

“Garuda Group, both Garuda Indonesia Airways and Citilink, welcomed the program. We will actively participate, not only involved in reducing prices according to the government, but also helping ‘campaign’ to all branches that we have,” said Dony. [antaranews/photo special]
