THERE ARE SIX STEPS OF TOURISM MINISTRY IN THE EMERGENCY OF COVID-19

MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy has established strategic steps for the tourism sector and creative economy during the COVID-19 emergency response.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Wishnutama Kusubandio in his statement in Jakarta, said the government divided the three stages in handling COVID-19. Namely the emergency response period, recovery, and normalization.

“We have reallocated the budget and implemented special programs during the COVID-19 emergency response period. Reallocation will be directed to a variety of programs that are in direct support for handling COVID-19 that can help the tourism sector and the creative economy,” Wishnutama said.

During this emergency response, six programs have been rolled out in accordance with the authority of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in efforts to mitigate the tourism sector and the creative economy.

The program includes the provision of accommodation, transportation, and consumption facilities for medical personnel and supporting staff of the Reference Hospital for handling COVID-19 according to the recommendations of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling COVID-19.

“Until now there are more than 2000 health workers in Jakarta who have been facilitated. This cooperation is also a form of Tourism Ministry & Creative Economy support for the tourism industry namely the hotel and transportation business so that they can continue to employ their employees,” he said.

Furthermore, in coordination with relevant ministries/institutions, Tourism & Creative Economy Ministry intensively provides proposals for various programs that can provide relief for industry and tourism workers and creative economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Tourism has proposed the tourism sector and creative economy business fields included in Minister of Finance Regulation 23/PMK.03/2020. Subsectors included in the tourism and creative economy businesses will be able to take advantage of incentives in the form of Income Tax 21 Subsidies, Exemption of 22 income tax (PPh) Imports, and a 30% reduction in PPh.

The Minister of Tourism hopes that the micro, small and medium enterprise tourism and creative economy affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can maximize the policy when the expansion of Permenkeu 23/PMK.03/2020 has been approved by the Ministry of Finance.

Ministry of Tourism independently rolled out a program to empower smal medium enterprises in the tourism sector and the creative economy. Among them through the national campaign #GerakanMaskerKain, #GerakanMakanSajiSaji, and #SatuDalamKopi Movement which aims to move the economy in the period of handling the impact of COVID-19.

#GerakanMaskerKain targets to procure 1 million fabric masks nationwide. In the program Tourism Ministry involves Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the creative economy sector to participate. So they can still run their business in the midst of a pandemic, and the products produced are also very useful for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“The Ministry of Tourism previously also recorded around 213 thousand workers in the tourism sector and creative economy from 34 provinces (data up to 4/22/2020) who were affected by COVID-19. The data will be used by the Ministry of Tourism as a basis for activities, including involving micro, small and medium enterprise Creative Economy players affected in #MaskerKain Movement,” he noted.

The latest, Tourism Ministry together with the Ministry of Industry and supported by Tokopedia rolled out the #SatuDalamKopi campaign as a joint effort to advance the archipelago coffee while at the same time moving the economy of national coffee industry players to keep rolling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The tourism ministry has also cooperated with creative economic players to jointly strengthen the #JagaJarak campaign. With a massive movement it is hoped that it can raise high awareness among the people,” Wishnutama explained.

Through these programs, he continued, it is hoped that the tourism and creative economy community will be more competitive and ready to rise together when the pandemic is declared over. We will reallocate budgets and carry out programs that involve tourism and creative economy players so that they can help sustain income and improve the quality of destinations and businesses in the tourism & creative economy sector.
