IT’S STOPPED DUE TO COVID-19, NOTREDAME RESTORATION IS BACK TO CONTINUED

CONSTRUCTION workers at the Notre-Dame Cathedral restoration in Paris, France have recently begun to repair the burned shell of Notre-Dame. The construction workers continued the gigantic task of rebuilding the cathedral after a corona virus outbreak required work to be stopped for one and a half months.

On April 15, 2019, a fire struck the 850-year-old building that stands on the banks of the River Seine, destroying the cathedral tower and its roof.

According to firefighters, within 30 minutes a fire had destroyed the cathedral.

French President Emmanuel Macron promised to rebuild the cathedral within five years but the restoration work was considered slow.

The renovation delay was caused by toxic lead caused by fire, then there was a winter storm and finally the corona virus pandemic which required the closure of the renovation site in March.

Monsignor Patrick Chauvet, as cathedral manager, said the restoration that had been resumed had followed social distance rules, so work could continue. Chauvet said rinse rooms and changing rooms for workers have been modified to reduce the risk of infection.

“It is true that we have lost a month and a half. But this project is still in the deadline to meet the 5 year deadline set by Macron,” Chauvet said. [antaranews]
