TOURISM MINISTRY DISTRIBUTES 100,000 CLOTH MASKS TO CREATIVE ECONOMY PLAYERS

THE Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy distributed 100,000 cloth masks to tourism and creative economy players as well as other supporting players of tourism & creative economy who were forced to work outside the home in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry took a number of parties, one of them MNC Cares to hold a campaign that is part of #GerakanMaskerKain in an effort to suppress the spread of COVID-19, as well as helping to move the creative fashion industry of the country, especially Micro, Small and Medium businesses (UKM) that were affected by COVID-19.

In the first stage, a total of 49,930 cloth masks were handed over to Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association Jakarta Chapter (PHRI DKI Jakarta), Jakarta MRT, and Transjakarta.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama Kusubandio represented by Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Products Tourism Ministry, Josua Simanjuntak in a symbolic handover of cloth masks, Friday (8/5), said #GerakanMaskerKain has three main objectives.

“First is the issue of humanity, which in this movement seeks to invite and educate healthy people to simply use masks made of cloth. So that the availability of medical masks is sufficient for health workers and patients in need,” Josua Simanjuntak noted.

“Masks made from this cloth have been studied sufficiently to minimize direct contact with dust, viruses, and droplets outside the home if they cannot work from home and have to interact with many people,” said Josua Simanjuntak at the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Building Enchantment of Jakarta.

Next is the issue of continuous innovation, where in this program the industry involved utilizes the remaining fabric from garment production to reduce fashion industry waste.

“And the third thing that is very important is to help activate or drive the fashion creative industry in moving their businesses to continue working by making fabric masks that they can make from patchwork or the rest of their fabric,” he said.

In the process, Josua explained, this collaboration began with open registration for Indonesian fashion industry creative industry players to participate in the fabric mask making that had been carried out on 1 to 5 April 2020 on the social media channel of the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism.

“In this first phase #GerakanMaskerKain involves 13 creative fashion industry players with a total of 122 workers,” he added.

Before starting this program, Tourism &Creative Economy Ministry opened Open Registration to select the right Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as fabric mask producers. Expected criteria include work processes that prioritize hygiene and health protocols.

He also ensured #GerakanMaskerKain will continue to run by involving more homeland fashion industry. We will continue to open up cooperation with various parties to be able to jointly drive the creative economy through this movement.

Meanwhile Director of Corporate Secretary of MNC Group, Syafril Nasution, explained that in this collaboration his side raised funds of IDR500 million through MNC Peduli to produce fabric masks which would then be distributed by Tourism & Creative Economy Ministry.

“Hopefully, through this activity, we all Indonesian people can continue to improve the discipline of wearing masks and maintaining distance. That way we hope that conditions will return to normal and the community will resume their activities soon,” Syafril Nasution concluded. [traveltext.id]
