ASEAN countries have agreed to maximize shared digital media facilities as a means of disseminating one-door information related to the handling and development of COVID-19 in the ASEAN region as well as a means of promoting tourism in ASEAN member countries.
According to the Director of Interagency Relations of the Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy, Kartika Candra Negara as the Head of Delegation of Indonesia at the “Special Video Conference Meeting of the ASEAN Tourism Communication Team (ATCCT) on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)” which took place online explains, the focus of crisis communication throughout the ASEAN Member States (AMS) at the moment is to restore tourist confidence in the quality of cleanliness, health and safety of ASEAN tourist destinations post-COVID-19.
“The world community wants to know the strategy and development of the handling of COVID by AMS, what are the efforts that have been made by tourism stakeholders in each country and ASEAN as a whole in order to face the new normality of tourism,” Kartika Candra Negara said, Friday (5/6 ).
She added that Malaysia as Chair of the ATCCT then proposed maximizing a website along with ASEAN tourism, namely visitseasia.travel, to display COVID-19 special content. Namely related to COVID-19 statistics, travel advisory and the efforts and positive results of each AMS in handling COVID-19.
Meanwhile the Head of the Communication Bureau of the Ministry of Tourism, Agustini Rahayu as the Crisis Communication Focal Point said that Indonesia in handling COVID-19 in the tourism sector was guided by the Minister of Tourism Regulation No. 10 of 2019 concerning Tourism Crisis Management. Namely in analyzing the impact of the crisis, providing information services and services for tourists and human resources for tourism and the creative economy, which of them maximizes digital technology including the use of social media and digital media.
“The Indonesian government provides the website covid19.go.id which is managed by the National Task Force as the official source of COVID-19 Indonesia data. While for the development of handling COVID-19 in the tourism sector and creative economy, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy provides microsite careicovid19.kemenparekraf. go.id,” Agustini Rahayu said.
She noted that the use of digital technology is expected to facilitate the public and tourists related to the development of COVID-19 handling of the tourism sector and the creative economy. Indonesian government through the Ministry of Health had issued health protocols for various sectors and a paper-based and electronic version of the mobile and web version for tourists.
In accordance with the rotation mechanism, the ATCCT Chairman for the 2020 period is Cambodia with the Indonesian Co-Chair. One of the work focuses of the next ATCCT is the optimization of the visitseasia.travel website as a one gate information handling COVID-19 and tourism promotion of ASEAN member countries.
