THE national airline Garuda Indonesia, together with its subsidiary Citilink Indonesia, has ensured that it has cracked down on unscrupulous pilots who are proven to have committed drug abuse with sanctions terminating employment.
According to Garuda Indonesia’s Managing Director Irfan Setiaputra in his official statement in Jakarta said based on the results of our search and coordination with the police regarding the Garuda Indonesia and Citilink pilots involved in narcotics abuse, we can say that the company has imposed termination of employment sanctions (PHK) against persons the pilot.
Irfan said the application of PHK sanctions is a form of firm commitment by not tolerating employees who abuse narcotics.
He added that as a form of serious attention and ongoing efforts carried out by Garuda Indonesia in ensuring aspects of aviation safety and security, especially through efforts to prevent the misuse of narcotics and alcoholic beverages in the company environment, Garuda Indonesia implemented the Drug and Alcohol Management Program (DAMP) through a random check of rapid urine NAPZA tests (Narcotics, Psychotropics, and other Addictive Substances), of more than 122 flight crew and operational officers at Terminal 3 of Soekarno Hatta International Airport.
The random inspection results showed that all flight crew and Garuda Indonesia operational officers who underwent urine test were declared clean from NAPZA.
“Garuda Indonesia Group periodically conducts drug checks on all its employees as an effort to prevent narcotics abuse in the work environment as well as to ensure the safety and comfort of Garuda Indonesia service users,” Irfan noted.
Previously, the subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia Group, Citilink Indonesia had also carried out a series of random checks on its employees, especially those who served in operational lines including pilots and cabin crew. [antaranews/photo special]
