THE Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will soon form a creative hub for five Super Priority Destinations (SPDs) within the next year.
According to the Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of Tourism, Hari Santosa Sungkari said we would build creative hubs in 5 super priority destinations from 2020 to 2021. The five SPDs are Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Likupang in North Sulawesi, Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, and Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara. This Creative Hub is expected to become a center of activity for creative industry players around the SPD area.
He added that the planning for the construction of a creative hub for Toba will be built in Samosir, Borobudur in Semarang, Likupang in Manado, in Labuan Bajo, and Mandalika. The creative hub development process in Labuan Bajo has reached 60 percent and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2020. Meanwhile, the creative hubs in four other destinations are still at the design and planning stage.
“We make sure the Creative Hub in Labuan Bajo continues the process. This year’s target is more to handover the interior work. This means that next year we will build it,” Hari said.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority, Shana Fatina, said that our side is still preparing to build facilities and infrastructure in Labuan Bajo to make it a premium tourist destination.

Among them is the construction of an 18 kilometer by-pass route from Lombok International Airport to Mandalika area, expansion of provincial roads, and renovation of airports.

Arie assessed that Lake Toba has the advantage of attracting foreign tourists because it is located close to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
“In the last 4 years, there have been a lot of progress made by ministries and the private sector. In Balige, for example, there are online motorcycle taxis and many culinary merchants with open potential, then we have also worked with Damri to provide shuttle services around tourist destinations.
