FUNDAMENTAL IMPROVEMENT IS THE KEY TO IMPROVING TOURISM POST-PANDEMIC

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his State Address at the MPR/DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, said I invite all stakeholders in the tourism sector and creative economy to make fundamental changes and improvements in an effort to rise to face the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now is the right time to do fundamental self-improvement. Including transforming and executing a grand strategy. We must carry out this spirit together by making fundamental changes that can increase our competitiveness in the tourism sector and the creative economy,” President Jokowi said.

President Joko Widodo previously said the COVID-19 pandemic had made all countries experience setbacks. However, this setback can be an opportunity and momentum for us to catch up.

“This is the time for us to improve fundamentally, carry out major transformations, carry out big strategies. Big strategies in the fields of economy, law, government, social, culture, including health and education,” the President noted.

He added that the mindset and work ethic must change. Flexibility, speed and accuracy are needed. Efficiency, collaboration and use of technology must be prioritized. National discipline and national productivity must also be improved.

NTT Traditional Clothing
President Joko Widodo while delivering a state speech wearing traditional clothing from Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. By wearing this traditional outfit, President Joko Widodo wants to invite the public to love Indonesian products which are known for their rich arts of craftsmanship, weaving, and Indonesian culture.

The traditional clothing of Sabu Raijua Regency itself consists of “si hawu” or sarong, “higi huri” or blanket, and “naleda” aka shawl. This is not the first time President Joko Widodo has worn traditional clothing from various regions in the country. During the 73rd Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony, President Jokowi wore Acehnese traditional clothing which is commonly called Linto Baro and during the 2019 MPR annual session President Jokowi wore traditional West Nusa Tenggara Sasak clothes.
