BALI HOTELS SEEK GOVERNMENT STIMULUS TO ATTRACT DOMESTIC TOURISTS

THE Indonesian Hotel General Manager Association’s (IHGMA’s) Bali Chapter has pinned hopes on the government offering a stimulus to attract local tourists to Bali.

According to Deputy Chairman of IHGMA Bali I Made Ramia Adnyana said with a reduction in income and some not having any source of earnings, it is impossible for them (domestic tourists) to come to Bali.

Adnyana is also optimistic of the government extending assistance to the tourism industry to help employees keep their jobs. The tourism industry has currently been hit hard as the financial standing of companies has also taken a beating, with difficulties faced in paying for electricity and employee salaries during the pandemic.

Speaking in connection with the plan to open Bali tourism to foreign tourists from September 11, 2020, Adnyana’s party respects the decision of the Bali provincial or national government.

“However, if possible, we suggest that a government stimulus be offered at this time to attract local and domestic travelers to visit Bali,” he noted.

The IHGMA deputy chairman pointed out that Bali was clearly in dire need of assistance at this time. Adnyana cautioned that social friction or also more grave crimes should not stem from difficulties encountered by people to fulfill their basic needs.

The Bali provincial government yet awaits a more comprehensive and detailed study on a plan to open local tourism for foreign tourists from September 11, 2020.

“Everything needs to be studied,” Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati had stated recently.

Sukawati believes that regulations and conditions in the tourists’ countries of origin should be factored in while opening tourism to foreign travelers. [antaranews/photo special]
