THE Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy supports a running event titled Virtual Reality (VR) Run Series 2020 with the theme of Mandalika priority tourist destinations, West Nusa Tenggara on August 24-30 2020.
According to the Deputy for Tourism and Event Organizers, Rizki Handayani, in a statement in Jakarta, said the Ministry welcomed the holding of a virtual event which is one of the best virtual event proposals from the Virtual Event Program: Best Practices and Ideas held by the Ministry of Tourism. the same as the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) in May 2020.
“As a virtual sports event, the 2020 Mandalika VR Run Series is expected to contribute in introducing the potential for sports tourism in Mandalika, and tourists can experience it firsthand when conditions allow for a vacation,” Rizki Handayani said.
Rizki also explained that Triathlon is the right market segment to develop sports tourism, because so far swimming, cycling and running are among the most favorite sports. This is not difficult to find in Indonesia.
“Especially now, people tend to prefer to exercise in small groups and explore new destinations away from the crowds. Talking about NTB, Gili has already been known. But not necessarily many people know what’s going on in Mandalika apart from the MotoGP circuit,” she said.
The 2020 VR Run Series Mandalika is organized by the Indonesia Triathlon Series (ITS) and is fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. This virtual sports event is a form of ITS commitment to support the Indonesian tourism sector through sports.
The 2020 VR Run Series Mandalika takes place on 24-30 August 2020. Participants can choose to run in the 10K or 21K series during the race period. This virtual running event is the second in a total of three series of VR Runs this year. The first VR Run takes place in May 2020.
Meanwhile, the third VR Run will be held in October 2020. By participating in these three events completely, participants have the opportunity to get three parts of the medal which can be combined into one.
This virtual sport event is different from other similar events in Indonesia, through the presence of the first virtual race village in Indonesia, which also carries the concept of NTB destinations. Many interesting features in the virtual race village that can be explored, even for non-participants.
