A CENTURY OF GEDUNG SATE IS THE WEST JAVA TOURISM DEVELOPMENT MOMENTUM

ON July 27, 2020, Gedung Sate, formerly known as Gouvernements Bedrijven, celebrated its 100th anniversary. Since its groundbreaking in 1920, Gedung Sate has been plotted as a government building at that time. Until finally this building began to be officially used in 1924.

According to Azis Zulfikar as Head of the Tourism Industry, West Java Province Tourism and Culture Office to the Tourism and Creative Economy Journalists Forum (Forwaparekraf) group, said that as a sign of the century’s age, Gedung Sate then opened this building area to the public and became one of the tourist destinations.

“People can also trace the historical traces of West Java by presenting an experienced tour guide at the Gedung Sate Museum. Now, by only paying Rp. 5,000 tourists can learn more closely the history of the construction of Gedung Sate at the Gedung Sate Museum in a comprehensive and digital approach,” he said.

Azis explained that the construction of Gedung Sate was originally planned to consist of 17 different buildings but only 3 buildings were able to be realized by the Dutch East Indies at that time. Initially, Gedung Sate would only be the beginning of the construction of the Dutch East Indies Central Government Complex to replace the role of Batavia. According to the master plan, 17 buildings will be built, but only 3 have been realized due to the economic crisis caused by World War 1.

“The Gedung Sate complex will continue to be developed as a pedestrian-friendly tourist destination with the construction of a pedester until it reaches Monju (Monument Juang). Hopefully this can attract more attention of visiting tourists, because Gedung Sate is very appropriate to become the tourism center point for Bandung City,” he noted.

He added, and in the context of the New Habit Adaptation period, Gedung Sate also implemented strict health protocols as part of an effort to realize safe and comfortable tourism in West Java province. [traveltext.id]
