INDONESIA is one of the world’s coral triangles. A tourist destination that has coral reef potential is Wakatobi, because it has a coral reef area of 54,500 hectares. In addition, other natural resource potentials in Wakatobi, including mangroves, turtle habitat, seagrass ecosystem, shorebird habitat, marine mammal habitat, and economical fish.
According to Kelapa Balai National Park, Wakatobi Darman said that with all the potential natural resources in Wakatobi, the management policies we are implementing are the arrangement of tourism zoning according to its function, compiling studies on the carrying capacity of marine ecotourism, compiling visitor service SOPs and tourism ethics, developing natural tourism infrastructure, conservation of marine resources, community empowerment in Wakatobi, as well as increasing promotion and information on various platforms.
Meanwhile, Head of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Provincial Tourism Office, Wayan Darmawan, said that East Nusa Tenggara is an archipelago province with 1,192 islands. Where the existence of quite a lot of islands brings extraordinary benefits, because it contains very exotic tourism potential, both natural tourism, cultural tourism, and marine tourism.
“To take advantage of the potential of archipelago tourism and marine tourism, NTT province has carried out several strategic plans to accelerate the increase in tourism in this new normal era. One of them is by developing archipelagic and marine tourism as a ring of beauty tourism which must prepare something different, such as preparing cruise ships for domestic tourists to tour all tourist destinations in NTT,” he said.
He added that this is done, because often we pamper foreign tourists more than domestic tourists. Even though the potential for domestic tourists is quite good. It only remains how the sea transportation facilities are repaired, so that they no longer use ordinary passenger ships.
According to Wayan, to ensure sustainable archipelago and marine tourism, it is necessary to pay attention to aspects of local culture in its development.
Wayan also said that currently, the most important thing in building sustainable tourism is building the trust of tourists in implementing CHSE-based health protocols (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability) in each tourist destination. [traveltext.id]
