THE IMPORTANCE OF LABUAN BAJO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT MASTERPLAN

MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy emphasizes the importance of the Integrated Tourism Master Plan (ITMP) in tourism development and development in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings.

According to the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo in the “Floratama Forum 2020 Regional Tourism Development Coordination Meeting Towards Sustainable Tourism in Flores, Alor, Lembata, and Bima”, Tuesday (6/10) said the development and development of sustainable tourism in Labuan Bajo, NTT, can be carried out in an integrated and comprehensive manner if it refers to the ITMP so that in the future it is necessary to immediately compile the ITMP together.

“The Floratama 2020 Forum is an important forum for all tourism and creative economy stakeholders in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings to discuss and provide input so that development in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings can be carried out with world-class sustainable tourism principles,” said Angela who was present virtually.

In its preparation, Angela suggested that ITMP be designed carefully and well and need to consider the existing market potential, both domestic and international markets, especially the future tourism trends after the COVID-19 pandemic. A good development is a development that must be able to match the uniqueness that is owned and adjusted with the right calculation of market potential.

“So that the existing development is right on target and measurable. We must be able to match supply and demand and there needs to be clear targets, measurable targets, work breakdowns, clear timelines, in the formation of the ITMP,” Angela noted.

In addition, an important entity that must be built is a center of safety that is able to support the needs of the community and tourists in terms of security, safety and health.

Labuan Bajo has been designated as a pilot project location for the construction of a center of safety which will later be implemented in other destinations. Labuan Bajo is also a pilot project location for the implementation of plastic waste management in marine tourism destinations as an action of ministerial regulation of tourism & creative economy No.5 of 2020 which requires support from the local government for its implementation.

The Komodo National Park and Labuan Bajo National Tourism Strategic Areas also need to continue to improve in building new tourist destinations and areas, including in preparing NTT as the main venue and supporting venue for the ASEAN Summit and G20 events in 2023. Efforts should be made to maximize the ASEAN Summit and G20 agenda. can be done well so that it becomes another form of Indonesia’s progress.

“We believe that East Nusa Tenggara can become a world-class dream destination that is safe and comfortable to visit. With us building and providing quality tourism practices and standards for tourists, surely the good benefits will return to us, such as high foreign exchange for Indonesia and economic value. big jobs for people in East Nusa Tenggara,” Angela stated.

Meanwhile, the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, emphasized that sustainable tourism can be realized if it has a positive impact on society. So that the development of tourism and creative economy in Labuan Bajo and its surroundings must be community-based.

According to him, the central government and regional governments must be able to define premium quality tourism that has an impact on society.
