ALOR IKAT WEAVING IS ALOR WOMEN’S PRIDE DEPICT MOTIF OF FISHERMEN

IT turns out that the life of the people of Alor, East Nusa Tenggara, whose livelihoods are mostly fishermen and are one with the sea, are clearly illustrated by every motif or pattern of the woven cloth.

Each of its features clearly depicts a father, as the head of a household with a life as a fisherman, a job that has been a work from generation to generation since their ancestors, as well as the life of his wife and daughter as a cloth weaver perpetuating the work of their husband/father in a woven pattern. which he made so he could be remembered forever.

Each weaving is made full of prayers to the Goddess of the Sea (Pou Hari) for the safety of their family and a blessing from the inheritance of the sea that needs to be preserved for their lives and for their future children and grandchildren. The principle that the fishermen of Alor adhere to is that the sea cannot be damaged.

.But in the process of making Alor’s weaving, it’s not just the motive, even natural dyes are also taken from marine animals or biota. So that the color of the ikat weaving does not fade, they soak and wash it with sea water repeatedly.

In tracing the historical journey of the Alor ikat pattern, at the Alor Creative Market event, it could be the first history of this 12-meter-long ikat weaving stretched out in the sea at a depth of 12 meters by 10 divers, which is a moment that makes Alor women feel moved and cry , because they did not expect that this was the first time their work was appreciated at the event. Isn’t this an extraordinary masterpiece presented by Alor for the Indonesian people?

If you agree, you are indirectly helping Alor women, most of whom work as weavers in Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. [traveltext.id]
