IMPACT OF COVID-19, THE NUMBER OF VISITORS TO LOUVRE MUSEUM DOWN 72%

THE Louvre Museum in Paris, France, which is the home of famous works of art such as the Mona Lisa, recorded a drastic drop in visitor numbers in 2020 compared to the previous year.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has had a major impact on the tourism sector, the number of visitors to the Louvre last year fell by 72%. The Louvre said in a statement that the number of visitors in 2020 would reach 2.7 million.

The Louvre, like other museums in the world, had to close for some time last year due to territorial restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus infection.

The museum, which saw 9.6 million visitors in 2019, closed in March 2020, days before France imposed strict national territorial restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. [antaranews/photo special]
