MINISTER of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, encouraged the directors of the three Tourism Authority Bodies (TAB) that manage the super priority destination areas (SPD) to expand collaboration with the private sector in terms of financing SPD development projects.
In a virtual Kickoff Briefing meeting on the Potential of PPPs (Partnership for Government and Business Entities), Wednesday (24/2), Sandiaga said that this collaboration was very important in efforts to develop three DSP areas managed by the three TABs, namely Borobudur, Lake Toba and Labuan Bajo. This is considering the very limited funds owned by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
“So one of the financing methods that I have always developed since I was in the world of business and government and now I want to introduce it to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is the partnership between the government and business entities (PPP),” Sandiaga said.
Sandiaga said this had been approved by President Joko Widodo. He also assessed that PPP can be a very effective financing method for preparing supporting infrastructure and operational management in the three SPDs managed by the TAB
“So that in this meeting we can discuss in detail about this and we need commitment from me and the ranks as well. But the important thing is that this PPP can change the paradigm in infrastructure providers, if we had built it in the past but now we build it together with the private sector,” he said.
Sandiaga said, PPP is very relevant to the COVID-19 pandemic situation that is being experienced by the world and Indonesia. He mentioned that the 2021 State Budget had been reallocated to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I want the Tourism Minsitry cooperation platform in PPP to remain the same, namely innovation, adaptation, and collaboration. The execution of this strong development collaboration is in the PPP scheme and we must also involve the public,” Sandiaga noted.
On that occasion, Sandiaga also requested that each TAB, namely TAB Lake Toba, TAB Borobudur, and TAB Labuan Bajo Flores along with related deputies within the Ministry of Tourism to form a small team to study PPP matters. The target for signing (PPP contract) will be around May 2021. So later in May we can start something. [traveltext.id]
