THE revival of Indonesian tourism sector during the COVID-19 pandemic requires joint efforts as a whole from upstream to downstream in the tourism ecosystem. With this joint effort, it is hoped that more of Indonesia’s tourism potential, which has not been well exploited, will become a new source of foreign exchange for Indonesia.
A total of seven BUMN or State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) initiated collaboration in the tourism ecosystem through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the Collaboration of the Tourism Ecosystem SOE Strategic Program. The signing of this MoU is to collaborate to revive the tourism sector in Indonesia.
According to State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir said I welcomed the collaboration carried out by 7 SOEs Tourism and Supporting ecosystems by conducting an MoU to formulate strategic programs in tourism development.
“This is a good initiative according to the Key Performance Indicators given to the directors and commissioners of the SOEs One of the functions of SOE is as an agent of development so that it has an important role in the National Economic Recovery program. The seven SOEs are collaborating to become the driving force for the tourism sector to increase again and have a positive impact on other business players,” Erick Thohir said.
He explained, the SOE that signed the MoU, namely PT Angkasa Pura I as the airport operator such as; PT Angkasa Pura II as the airport operator, PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk as operator of Garuda Indonesia and Citilink Indonesia airlines, PT Tourism Development Indonesia or ITDC as a developer and manager of a tourism area, PT Taman Borobudur, Prambanan & Ratu Boko Temple Tour as the manager of the Temple Tourism Park Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko, PT Hotel Indonesia Indonesia Natour is a travel management and hotel chain operator, as well as PT Sarinah which as retail, property, export, import and distribution businesses.
“Through the signing of this MoU, the seven SOEs will be more intensively following up on the MoU this is with a quick win program related to joint promotion, cross selling, bundling strategy and manufacturing tourism-related products according to the new normal. On the other hand, the parties too will examine the possible use of company resources including its subsidiaries or affiliated companies to support the running of this strategic program,” he stated.
Erick added, I ask that this synergy can be implemented consistently and not only lip service, not only ceremonial but also something concrete. We hope that the contribution we make to the country can be more optimal and provide benefits to the business world in Indonesia facing the challenges of a pandemic.
The collaboration of 7 SOEs which was marked by the signing of this MoU was an effort forming a market (demand creation) by the Project Management Office Holding Team for SOE Tourism and Supporters, as a first step before the holding is formed. The process of forming the SOE Tourism and Supporting Holding is currently still ongoing.
“Although the Holding of SOE Tourism and Supporters is still in the process of being formed, however the seven SOEs have started the process of collaborating and carrying out transformations in various areas areas to prepare to better serve society by ensuring availability of quality, affordable and integrated tourism products and services,” he concluded.
