INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said that the tourist village could be one of the attractions developed in 5 super priority tourist destinations or known as “New Bali” which is currently being built by the central government.
“There are 244 tourist villages which are special attractions for the special interests of foreign and domestic tourists, experiencing the nature and culture of the 5 super priority destinations,” Sandi said in a webinar held entitled “Reimagining the Future of Indonesia”, Monday (22 / 3).
Sandi said that in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was still trying to make tourism recover as soon as possible after many tourism businesses and the creative economy experienced many difficulties. Creating new experiences and innovation is one of the keys to increasing the movement of the economy in the tourism sector in Indonesia.
“By seeing the potential of villages in tourist areas that can be packaged to provide new experiences for tourists, Sandi hopes that business actors in tourist destinations can rise from adversity. There are 75 thousand villages in Indonesia, they have more than 1000 villages that have the potential to be developed, and there are 244 tourist villages that have been registered. Now it remains how this tourist village becomes a program that can be inclusive and embrace our friends in the lowest sectors, “said Sandi.
He explained, in the tourist village, it is also hoped that Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) will be properly empowered from culinary to handicrafts. MSMEs must adapt to digital transformation and start selling through online platforms.
“We also have to focus on the creative economy aspect. Starting from presenting new attractions, handicraft products, culinary products, even creative economy products including films to music, it must be developed,” Sandiaga Uno stated.
He added, there are also 5 tourist destinations that are planned to be developed as super priorities by the Ministry of Tourism, namely Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Borobudur (Central Java), Mandalika-Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), and Likupang. (North Sulawesi).
Sandiaga concluded the target for completion of the 5 tourist destinations was expected to be completed by the end of 2021 after previously having withdrawn from the initial plan which was targeted for completion by the end of 2020. [traveltext.id]
