MINISTER SANDIAGA UNO MAKES A WORKING VISIT TO WEST SUMATRA PROVINCE

INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, paid a working visit to West Sumatra Province, Wednesday (21/4). Sandiaga reviewed the development of the tourism and creative economy sector, especially the application of health protocols and the readiness of destinations in West Sumatra in entering an era of adaptation to new habits.

This visit is also a follow-up to the meeting of the Minister of Tourism with 11 regents and mayors from all over West Sumatra which took place some time ago in Jakarta. The minister and his entourage then reviewed the application of health protocols at the airport. Starting from baggage claim to E-HAC health declaration.

“Today we are starting a working visit to several tourist spots in West Sumatra. This visit is also a follow-up to our previous coordination meeting in an effort to revive the tourism and creative economy sector in West Sumatra, one of which is through the global culinary industry, namely rendang. we immediately moved quickly from the coordination meeting,” said Sandiaga.

In the previous meeting, the regents and mayors submitted several work program proposals including both physical and non-physical developments.

“This activity is what we want to integrate because part of my visit here also wants to prepare for the events that we have launched, including national and regional scale events, can be well curated and provided with assistance,” Sandiaga noted.

He explained that the development of tourism and creative economy in West Sumatra in the future will emphasize the combination of cultural strength and natural beauty. Among them are the development of a geopark and the Ombilin coal mine, which is the oldest coal mine in the world.

“We want to develop heritage-based tourism. My hope is that this visit can raise our spirits, open up opportunities within the framework of strict and disciplined health protocols,” Sandiaga underlined.

He also added that I also want to ensure that the implementation of a strict and disciplined protocol can be implemented in the tourism sector and the creative economy. The government itself has imposed a ban on going home from May 6 to May 17, 2021.

“Of course we have to take this because I received reports from many people who traveled before that date. Of course we must respond with caution and obedience. Our readiness in anticipating community visits in each tourist destination and creative economy centers must be maintained,” Sandiaga Uno affirmed.

Sandiaga said lastly, I also wanted to discuss how to rearrange the potential for Muslim-friendly tourism. West Sumatra has an extraordinary experience because it already has a regional regulation. I want to explore and ensure that we can develop our existing potential optimally.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor H. Mahyeldi Ansharullah said West Sumatra was ready to implement strict and disciplined health protocols in the tourism sector and the creative economy. This is also in line with the concept of Muslim-friendly tourism which also prioritizes cleanliness, health and safety.

“That our hotels, restaurants and culinary sector are ready to fulfill, as conveyed how we fulfill the elements of cleanliness, health, and others. We have also prepared a derivative from the Perda (Muslim-friendly tourism) this year,” Mahyeldi concluded.  [traveltext.id]
