GRAB SINGAPORE TRIALS A FOOD DELIVERY SERVICES USING A ROBOT RUNNER

GRAB Singapore conducted a cova test of the robot runner pilot service at Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) Mall, starting the second week of June. The delivery service robot will help consolidate orders across multiple restaurants within the mall before handing them over to delivery partners at a central collection point for remote delivery.

Through this pilot service, it is projected that Grab delivery partners can save between five and fifteen minutes of the time it would normally take to navigate a shopping center and collect each order.

Since Grab introduced the mix-and-match feature to several malls last year, this feature has grown in popularity among consumers as they can order from various restaurants within the mall and pay only one delivery fee.

However, with the number of orders increasing, delivery partners find themselves needing more time to maneuver through the crowd to find the many restaurants within the mall. The pilot aims to improve the delivery experience by reducing overall delivery times, and potentially allowing delivery partners to fulfill more orders per day.

According to Audrey Balakrishnan, General Manager, Paya Lebar Quarter said Lendlease is proud to partner with Grab on a pilot project that uses technology to facilitate safer and faster food delivery.

“With a central location for Grab riders to take orders and the use of technology to manage logistics workflows, we will be able to minimize person-to-person contact and do our part to safeguard the well-being of riders, renters and customers. We are working on a long-term collaboration with Grab to meet customer demands and improve the shopping experience,” said Audrey Balakrishnan.

Meanwhile Yee Wee Tang, Managing Director, Grab Singapore said that as a technology platform that caters to consumers, merchants and delivery riders, we are constantly looking for innovative solutions that can enhance the overall delivery experience for all parties. This is a fine balance to strike and we believe that advanced technologies like AI can help us do well.

“The food delivery landscape is rapidly evolving and the possibilities for innovation are endless. I am grateful that Lendlease shares the same hunger to break new ground through immersive technology and strongly supports this trial. I believe this will provide us with good lessons for future iterations and we hope to have more partners experimenting and trying new solutions with us, ”said Yee Wee Tang.

He also explained that we have seen an increase in orders since Grab introduced their mix-and-match service to PLQ Mall. Customers who were previously unwilling to pay shipping for just one cup of bubble tea can now add it to their food orders. After all, Singaporeans seem to drink bubble tea with everything.

“So I am happy that Grab is experimenting with this model because one of our priorities is to make sure our drinks reach the customer as quickly as possible to keep them feeling fresh. It’s not always easy for shippers to collect orders from various stores, I’m happy to see the results! “said one of the Grab service users. [bisnis.com/photo special]
