RELY ON TOURISM VILLAGES IS EXPECTED TO AWAKENING THE RURAL ECONOMY

THE SERIES of socialization events for the 2021 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) were again carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. This time the socialization was carried out in Candirejo Tourism Village, Magelang, Central Java.

Minister Sandiaga Uno when visiting Candirejo Tourism Village, Friday (6/4), said Candirejo was chosen because this tourist village is rich in tourism potential and natural resources with a combination of the Menoreh mountain landscape and rural atmosphere. The first village to be designated as a tourist village in Magelang Regency has also received an award and certification from the Tourism Ministry for its achievements as a sustainable tourism village.

“With this socialization, it is hoped that it can provide a reference and motivation for other villages in Indonesia to develop tourist villages as a driver of the community’s economy, opening up job opportunities,” said Sandiaga Uno.

Sandiaga Uno explained that the COVID-19 pandemic forced everyone to adapt by adopting new skills. And tourist villages are a mainstay for the Ministry of Tourism to boost tourism that is local or has a direct impact on the community.

He also hopes that through this socialization many tourist villages will participate in the 2021 ADWI event. The success of Candirejo Tourism Village is also expected to be an inspiration for other villages in Indonesia in developing villages and becoming a driving force for the community’s economy through tourism villages.

“We hope that Central Java province will include world-class tourist villages such as Karangrejo, Candirejo, and several other tourist villages to participate in ADWI. We hope that up to 500 tourist villages will participate,” Minister Sandiaga noted.

He added, for us, the revival of tourism is starting from tourist villages and we want tourist villages to be present to open up business opportunities, economic opportunities, and create jobs.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Youth, Sports and Tourism Office of Central Java Province, Sinoeng Rachmadi, said that tourist villages had become one of the programs run by the Central Java Provincial Government together with the Regency Government in the last two years.

This is indicated by the partisanship in the budget that supports the development of tourist villages in Central Java. The Central Java Provincial Government has prepared funding support for the development of three types of tourist villages. Namely, a pilot tourism village of IDR100 million, a developing tourist village of IDR500 million, and an independent tourism village of IDR1 billion.

“This means that we also welcome the policy of Minister Sandiaga to support the development of tourist villages. With this support, it is hoped that tourist villages will continue to develop in Central Java,” said Sinoeng Rachmadi.

Sinoeng added, in accordance with the Central Java Province’s medium-term development plan, by the end of 2023 it is targeted that 500 tourist villages will grow in Central Java.

“Currently, there are around 150 pilot tourism villages, 200 developing tourism villages, and 20 developed tourism villages in Central Java. We hope that developing tourism villages will develop into advanced tourism villages, pilot tourism villages will develop into developing tourist villages, and more villages will emerge. pilot tourism,” Sinoeng concluded.
